FDE Jobs in India: Postings Cool After 19x Surge (25 Oct 2026)

FDE hiring in India is still growing, but the pace is cooling. Indeed data shows postings were about 19x higher year on year in June 2026, then only over 6x higher by August. Glassdoor India still lists roughly 500 forward deployed engineer jobs, most of them in Bengaluru.

How many FDE jobs are there in India? (October 2026 counts)

According to Indeed data, FDE postings in India grew nearly 19x between June 2025 and June 2026, up 1,807% year on year in June. They were nearly 16x higher in July and more than 6x higher in August. That is a cooling from the peak, though still far above a year earlier. One report adds a caveat: the growth is from a very small base, and it counts postings on one platform, not hires.

The Glassdoor counts swing between 97 and 586 depending on the title variant, so read them as a range. Naukri and LinkedIn India totals are not publicly reported in the sources we could access this week.

By city, Indeed’s report lists Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and remote locations. Glassdoor and aggregator listings also show Pune and Noida roles.

Which companies are hiring FDEs in India?

The mix is wide: funded AI startups, consulting firms, IT services, GCCs and global product companies.

Other names seen this week:

• Axtria (Gurugram), PwC (Bengaluru), LTM (Noida), Fico (Bengaluru) and C5i (Bengaluru, Palantir Foundry).
• Vishleshan AI, an Indian startup, is hiring “Head of FDE” roles in Mumbai.
• Adobe has a senior FDE role in Noida.
• Persistent Systems (Pune), Wipro (an L2 FDE role) and Exotel (Bengaluru, 2.5–5 years asked) are also listed.

What do FDE jobs in India pay?

Pay data is thin. Glassdoor reported an average base of about ₹12 lakh, within a ₹9–16 lakh range, from 28 submissions (January 2026 update). Individual submissions showed total pay of ₹22–26 lakh for 1–3 years’ experience in Hyderabad and ₹23–27 lakh in Bengaluru. Indeed said its own sample is too small for a reliable median.

Listings show a much wider spread. Look at employer-provided figures, not Glassdoor’s auto-estimates, which for some listings look implausibly low. Examples: PinnacleU HR in Bengaluru offers ₹7–10 LPA, Thrifty AI in Noida posts ₹15 LPA and Kuber and Company in Mumbai shows ₹20–50 LPA. A Weekday listing for a remote role asks 2–5 years and shows ₹5–20 LPA.

Layoffs and FDE hiring: this week’s picture

The biggest India-relevant cut this week was at Barclays. On 22 October it announced plans to shed 5,000 jobs, about 5% of its global workforce. Around 1,000 have gone, 4,000 more are expected by year-end, and many back-office functions sit in India. About 60% of the cuts will hit support roles, including software developers.

The bank’s own framing is mixed. The CEO did not say AI was behind the cuts and pointed to technology investment and simplification. He also said Barclays will prioritise internal moves over outside hiring.

Elsewhere, Amazon reportedly laid off fewer than 1,000 white-collar workers in its stores division, with staff in the US, India and the UK affected. In the wider tally, TrueUp counts 665 tech layoffs affecting 196,349 people so far in 2026.

Set side by side: while Barclays announced 5,000 cuts, FDE listings in India stayed in the hundreds across Glassdoor. We found no source linking any of these layoffs to FDE hiring, and this post does not claim a link. Citi’s Pune FDE-titled role shows GCCs are posting such jobs, but that says nothing about who was let go elsewhere.

Where FDE demand is heading and what it means for India

AWS: It announced a $1 billion Forward Deployed Engineering unit, seeded with “thousands” of FDEs. AWS said it will hire externally for some roles and move others internally. The announcement was on 30 June 2026. No India hiring numbers were published in the sources we found.

OpenAI and Anthropic: OpenAI launched its Deployment Company on 11 May 2026 with more than $4 billion of initial investment. On the training side, Anthropic announced Claude Frontier Academy on 2 October 2026, with $100 million to train 10,000 engineers by end-2027.

The India gap: the labs’ India roles mostly do not carry the FDE title. On 2 October, none of OpenAI’s 24 FDE-titled postings was in India, though an Applied AI Engineer role covered Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Anthropic had not posted an FDE role in Bengaluru as of mid-September; its listings there included Applied AI Architect. The practical read: lab-grade FDE work in India currently sits under different titles, while the FDE-titled volume comes from startups, consultancies, IT services and GCCs.

What this means for you this week

1. Search every title variant. Use “forward deployed engineer”, “forward deployment engineer”, “applied AI engineer” and “AI deployment engineer”. Glassdoor counts varied from 97 to 586 by title, and OpenAI’s India roles use other names.
2. Target the 2–5 year band if you are mid-level. Several named roles (TCS, Google Cloud, Axtria, Fico, Cyble) are marked 2–5 years. Cities to filter: Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram, Noida.
3. Show a deployed project, not just a model. Indeed’s skills list covers Python or Java, data engineering, generative AI, RAG, AI agents, cloud, APIs, integrations and full-stack work. Build one RAG or agent workflow against a real API and document the customer problem. The FDE Alignment Checker can show which gaps to close first.
4. Apply on employer pages and read pay carefully. Take employer-provided pay as the signal and ignore Glassdoor estimates. If you work in GCC support or dev roles, ask internally about deployment-style openings, since Barclays’ CEO has promised internal moves a priority.
